Term 2 - Week 6 - 9th June,2022
Principals report
I am pleased to announce that Bothwell District High School has been successful in securing funding to enhance outdoor learning areas as part of the State Government’s Outdoor Learning Program commitment announced in the 2022-23 State Budget. As part of our submission we were asked to nominate two priority areas for outdoor learning works with a shade structure being approved. I will advise further as more details become available
Each year Mr O’Toole provides the opportunity for our Year 9/10 students to participate in a Wool Handling course. This year 8 students took up the challenge with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills at the Campbell Town Show. On Friday 3 June, Mikel B and James B came 1st Place with teams from Oatlands taking out 2nd and 3rd place. Congratulations to Mikel and James and to the other students that competed at this event.
To support our students navigating the challenges of being safe in a world dominated by social media, particularly applications like Snapchat and Tik Tok, we organised for students from Class 2, 3, and 4 to participate in a presentation about cyber bullying and bullying focusing on what it is, the effects, and consequences. We are having them come back again to give a more indepth presentation with the ThinkYouKnow program. ThinkUKnow. In Term 3 lawyers from Legal Aid will also be presenting a workshop with students. As always our key message to students when engaging with social media, if you have any concerns please talk about it immediately with parents/carers, take screenshots and report online bullying to the eSafety Commissioner or the police.
A reminder that water is the preferred drink of choice for both primary and high school aged children and that energy drinks are not allowed at school. I encourage you to read the following article from the Telethon Kids Institute Energy drinks not OK for kids | Telethon Kids Institute They surveyed 3,688 Western Australian high school students about their energy drink use and ground that more than half of the young people who consumed energy drinks suffered negative health effects.
Thank you to everyone who regularly notifies the school when their child is unwell and not at school. From Week 5 when students have a minimum of 5 unexplained absences attendance alert letters will recommence. Unexplained absences recorded prior to this date will not be included in attendance alert letters. Don’t forget to contact the school office if you require additional RATs for your children.
Due to unforeseen circumstances the School Association Meeting was rescheduled to Wednesday 15 June from 5.30 – 7.00pm. The meeting will be held in the Resource Room at school and online. If you would like access to the online link, please contact the office.

Mid-year reports
A reminder to families that mid-year reports will be distributed in Week 9 27/6-29/6, 15 minutes prior to your scheduled conference. You are able to book these sessions in SessionKeeper on Schoolzine from the 14/6-24/6 with your child homegroup teachers. Preps:Miss Burns/Miss Mason; Class 1: Miss Mason, Class 2: Miss Pennicott, Class 3: Miss Booth, Class 4: Miss Griggs, and Class 4 POL: Mr. O'Toole.
The new look report will show your child’s learning achievement differently. A new 9-point visual scale replaces A-E ratings for students in Years 1 to 10 (and for Prep students at the end of the year).
The 9-point scale will show more specifically where your child’s learning achievement is against the expected standard for their year level.
There will be no teacher comments on the report. This term parent/student/teacher conferences will be offered in Week 9 Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. These are a great opportunity to discuss how your child is progressing with their learning.
