Welcome to Bothwell District High School
Our school is located on the eastern side of the town in Patrick Street. Students from Kindergarten to Year 12 share the large and peaceful grounds. Students have full access to the Australian Curriculum and enjoy the opportunity to take part in a number of extra activities as a result of close ties with school and community members. The school maintains a large, well equipped workshop where students are supported to complete a variety of design, wood and metal projects. A fully serviced kitchen is also available allowing for a variety of cooking opportunities for students. The Bothwell School is generously supported by a variety of community based initiatives including the annual ANZAC Day book donations to the school which results in approximately 20-30 books donated by community members every year.
Our school supports families in the area through the Tasmanian Government funded programs, Launching into Learning (LiL) and Learning in Families Together (LIFT). Our Launching into Learning program is called Leapfrogs and operates weekly to support families, parents, teachers and children to play alongside each other, have fun and learn through a variety of programs such as play and learn sessions, water awareness, kinder gym, baby massage and local excursions.

Situated in central Tasmania on the Clyde River our town was originally home to the Lairmairrener People, with the first Europeans in the area by 1806. Bothwell is notable for its historic Georgian architecture and proximity to the famous fishing lakes of the Central Highlands.
A quiet agricultural town 76km from Hobart, Bothwell was originally named by Governor George Arthur after a small town in Scotland. At 352m above sea level Bothwell experiences the extremes of both winter and summer.
One of the most historically significant towns in Tasmania, Bothwell has a total of 60 buildings and locations of interest including the Australasian Golf Museum, St Michael and All Angels Church and two 19th Century ‘gentlemen’s residences’ Ratho and Wentworth. Located in Australia’s oldest working flour mill, Bothwell’s Nant Estate is home to a world renowned whisky distillery. Bothwell is also the home of the first Golf Course in Australia.
